ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)

Program Description
ESL is designed to help adults develop a vocabulary which they can use to communicate their needs and to understand personal, social and job situations in everyday living. Functional use of English is learned through listening, speaking, reading and writing practice in beginning, intermediate and advanced classes.

Entry requirements
Limited or non-English speaking adults, 16 and older.
A short interview is used to evaluate listening and reading skills, followed by an orientation interview and pre-test of skills. Initial and ongoing testing is used to determine the class – beginner, intermediate or advanced – is most appropriate for the student.
