Household Goods
All donations to Goodwill are tax deductible. IRS standards prohibit all not-for-profit organizations from assigning values to donated items. Read IRS Publication 561 to learn how to determine the value of donated property.
Resources for tracking donations throughout the year:
- Goodwill Rewards members can track donations through their online account [link to donation history page on GW Rewards]. Swipe your Rewards card with each donation and then itemize your donations online.
- TurboTax's ItsDeductible also provides online tracking of your donations.
Automobile Donations
IRS standards prohibit all not-for-profit organizations from assigning values to donated items. In general, the amount you can deduct from your taxes is the price your vehicle sold for at Goodwill's auto auction. Following the sale of your car at the Goodwill auto auction, you will receive a letter with the sale information for your tax records.
Goodwill always recommends that you consult a tax advisor. For more information, go to www.irs.gov.
