The Second Annual Good Turn for Goodwill Donation Drive Raises Awareness and Donations in Central Indiana

Update

The Del-Mi District Boy Scouts of America and Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana, Inc., held the second annual Good Turn for Goodwill donation drive this past October and November. The service project taught Boy Scouts about giving back to the community, and reusing and recycling. Scouts earned special badges for their participation.

Del-Mi District Scouts donated 3,204 bags, boxes and large items with a total weight of 53,730 lbs. Over 130 Cub Scouts and 156 Boy Scouts participated in the drive.

Goodwill threw a pizza party for Troop 107 from Westfield, the top performing troop. The top Scout also came from Troop 107. Winner Curtis Bender donated 163 bags, boxes and large items! Tim Cooper, Goodwill Senior Director for Retail Operations, and Joe Scherrer, Goodwill Business Development Manager, awarded participating Scouts with certificates and badges for their achievements.

The Scouts from the Del-Mi District demonstrated their entrepreneurial spirit and heart for giving by creating their own marketing fliers and circulating them in neighborhoods and businesses in the area.

Curtis Bender said his favorite part of the donation drive was getting to help others and earn badges in the process. He gave credit to his friends and family for helping him get donations. Curtis's grandma even got donations from her co-workers!

Scoutmaster Jim Hester's Troop 107 has doubled in size over the past 18 months due to its reputation for providing service in the community. Through Troop 107's Westfield Scouts for Westfield Families program, the Scouts have helped out in several projects including the Good Turn for Goodwill donation drive, a Thanksgiving food drive and a Christmas gift drive.

If you’d like to learn more about Good Turn for Goodwill and how your troop can participate in our 2013 drive, contact Erin Monahan at 317-524-4074 or emonahan@goodwillindy.org.
